Several Wrestler Place at the Prestigious Bob Quade Tournament
Several Williamson wrestlers took part in the prestigious Bob Quade Open tournament, hosted by Centenary University this past Sunday, with three Williamson wrestlers medaling on the day.
Leading the way for the Mechanics was 2023 NCWA national runner-up Talon Pisarchuk. After picking up pins in his first two matches, he went on to win a tough semi-final match, 6-3, to advance to the finals, where he took on 4-time Florida state champion and West Point Prep team member Cooper Haase. Though he lost via pin, Pisarchuk still came home with a silver medal.
Joining Pisarchuk on the medal stand was freshman heavyweight Harry Asencio. He won his first three matches on the day, 10-0, pin fall and then a 5-1 decision, before losing in the semifinals and consolation round, before winning his final bout to take 5th place.
Fellow freshman Chase Thompson, wrestling in the 235 lb. weight class, also had a big day. He start5ed off with a 9-6 decision, followed by a 21-8 majority decision, before losing to the #1 seed in the semifinals, 6-1. He then lost both consolation matches to medal at 6th place.
Alexander Gamble-Williams and 2023 NCWA national qualifier Michael Kling both went 2-2 on the day for the Mechanics. Liam Kernan went 1-2 on the day, while Jason Tokolics, who was coming off an illness and still wrestled well, failed to win a match.
Williamson gets back in action this Saturday at the Retriever Duals, hosted by the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
