Williamson Set to Host 2024 MEC Wrestling Dual Championships
It will be a new venture for Williamson and its wrestling program, as on Saturday morning, the Mechanics will play host to the 2024 National Collegiate Wrestling Association's Mid East Conference Dual Championships.
The vent will put 8 colleges against each other with four rounds of wrestling taking place on four mats. Wrestling starts at 9:00 A.M., with the doors opening to the public at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday.
Anyone who is planning on attending needs to be aware that admission is $10.00 for adults, while free for children. In addition, there is no bleacher seating. Designed as a true student center, the Wesley Center has no bleachers and no locker rooms in the building. Spectators may bring lawn chairs to use as long as they have rubber feet to protect the floor. There also is an indoor track above the action that people can choose to view the action from.
"When we were approached by the NCWA about hosting the event, we made it clear we had no locker rooms and no bleachers. They loved the facility as a whole and wanted us to continue the process of hosting the event and so here we are," shared long-time Williamson director of athletics Dale Plummer.
"We are excited by the event and could not be more thankful to our coaches, and especially Paul Louth, who has done yeoman's work in putting this event together."
As mentioned, there is a $10.00 admission fee (free to the Williamson community, as well as children) and concessions will be sold throughout the day. Parking is available at the Wesley Center, as well as across the street at the college's Restall Sports Center.
