Watkins Earns USCAA All-Academic Team Honors
Senior basketball team member and starting guard Garrett Watkins was named to the 2024 United States Collegiate Athletic Association's National All-Academic team, as announced by the organization.
In order to be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.50 or higher, and must be a starter or a significant contributor to his team's success. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
A three-year starter for the basketball team, Watkins shook off an early season shoulder injury to appear in 19 games, where he averaged 6.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per contest on the year.
"Garrett was a real leader for us. Anything we asked him to do, he would do and he set a great example for his teammates," shared Williamson head coach Bill Michaels.
The honor marks the fifth time Watkins has made a USCAA national All-Academic squad. Also a standout football and lacrosse player, he earned such honors twice for football and also earned it for basketball and lacrosse last year. No other student-athlete in the history of Williamson has earned more academic honors than he has.
"It Is always special to see our guys recognized for not just their athletic prowess on a national level, but also for their outstanding work in the classroom on a national level as well," shared long-time Williamson Director of Athletics Dale Plummer.
"Garrett exemplifies both to the maximum and we are very proud of his accomplishments during his time here."
