Overwatch Gold Headed to NECC Fall Emerging League Central Atlantic B League Championship Match
As they have done all season long, the Williamson Overwatch Gold team shutout their semifinal opponent, Kings College, 3-0 to advance to the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) Emerging League Central Atlantic B league championship match this Thursday night, December 7 at 6:00 P.M.
While Kings put up a bit of resistance in the second of the three maps, sending it to overtime, Williamson was able to fend off their challenge and went on the shut out the Monarchs, 3-0. Williamson has shut out every single opponent this Fall, having not dropped a single map!
Their opponent this Thursday is a familiar one in Eastern University, a team they easily defeated earlier in the season. While anything can happen in the world of esports, at least on paper, Williamson looks like a shoo-in to win the league championship.
"We are taking nothing for granted," shared Williamson head coach Nick Mariani. "We know we have to keep focused and play our best. We know that if we do that, the rest will take care of itself."
A league championship on Thursday would all but guarantee Williamson a place in next Spring's year-end national tournament. It also most likely will include a bump up into a tougher league next Spring as well. The NECC reevaluates teams at the end of each semester and Williamson's dominating performance will probably be cause to bump them up. Either way, the team is focused on the task at hand Thursday night and in bringing a league championship to Williamson.
"The guys are pumped. As good as we have played so far, I think you'll see an even better effort come Thursday. We can't wait!" closed Mariani.
