Odd Years Hang on to Take Down Even Years in Annual Alumni Game
Every year the annual basketball alumni game seems to go down to the wire and the 2024 version was no exception. In a back and forth battle between the odd numbered graduation years versus the even numbered ones that saw 11 lead changes in the final eight minutes of the game, it was the odd numbered years that hung on for the 63-60 win
Twenty-five alums came back to participate in the event and hung around long into the night afterwards to revive and renew friendships and get caught up with one another.
As far as the game went, the odd years twice stretched an early lead to as many as 11 points and coasted into an eight-point halftime lead. The even years though came storming back and went on a 13-0 run mid-way through the second half to go up by as many as three points with 5 minutes left. The odd team though regained their composure and were able to re-take the lead with under two minutes left. They then hung on for the triumph.
Juilian Stewart, on the strength of 6 firs thalf three-pointers, led the Odd years in scoring, while Frank Sammons, the oldest player om the court and who at one point scored 10 straight points, led teh Even years in scoring.
