Another Superlative Added-Williamson Lacrosse Named NCLL 2023 Division II Team of the Year
Another outstanding honor was bestowed upon the Williamson lacrosse team recently, as the National Collegiate Lacrosse League named them as their 2023 NCLL Division II Team of the Year award. The University of Virginia won the award for Division I teams.
"Team of the Year is awarded to that team which exemplifies a high level of success over the course of the entire season, communicates with their conference members professionally/on time and has a culture of hard work and high achievement, " explained NCLL commissioner Jamie McNealey.
The Team of the Year award is also awarded to that team that jumps from an Honorable Mention Top 25 to a consistent Top 10 team."
Williamson made a dramatic jump in their play from 2022. Coming off COVID in that year, the team struggled, going 4-11. They then had the biggest one season turnaround in school history, moving to 11-5 in 2023 and playing for the NCLL Liberty Division championship, a game they would lose on the road to eventual national champion West Chester University.
"Williamson is so proud of the job Coach DeRose and the players and staff put in this year to make it all happen. They were great representatives both on the field and off it, and we could not be more thankful for their efforts," shared Williamson Director of Athletics Dale Plummer.
The team returns eight starters for the 2024 campaign in what should be another promising season.
