
Williamson Gets Back on the Winning Track
In a back and forth game of runs, Williamson made their final run count the most, as they took down a stubborn visitor, The Crown College, for a 79-71 triumph on Friday night.
In a slow start to things, Williamson was up 4-1 three and half minutes into the game before the visitors scored six straight to go up 7-4. Williamson then countered with a 5-0 run to go up 9-7 and would lead the rest of the half, securing a 36-24 lead at halftime.
The Royal Crusaders came out on fire in the second half and went on a 16-2 run to take the team at 43-41 with thirteen minutes left. Williamson then countered with a 12-0 run to go up by eight, and would lead by nine at 61-52 with 5:53 left. The visitors would then cut that lead to four twice, but Williamson was able to stretch the lead back to ten with 2:22 left and hung on from there for the win.
Semaj Chery, who missed twelve games in the first semester, made a huge difference for the Mechanics, as the led the team with 22 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor. He also added 11 rebounds. Liam Rardin also added a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Rob Whiley chipped in with 17 points and five assists.
Jordan Mills led the visitors with 27 points and four assists.
The win snaps Williamson's three game losing streak and moves them to 5-10 on the year so far. They get right back into action again tomorrow, as they host Patrick Henry College in a 1:00 P.M. start.
