Basketball Gets Back on the Winning End of Things
If someone were looking for a well-played game of basketball, the Restall Sports Center was probably not the best venue to choose. Williamson shot just 39 percent in the first half and turned to ball over a whopping 24 times but in the end, the gutted out a 72-62 win over a gritty Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks team on Tuesday night.
Both teams started very slowly, as they combined for just six points in the firs five minutes of the game. Williamson would then get going and race out to a 16-4 lead midway through the half and increased it to 19-4 before a reliant Hawks team put together one of their several runs to cut the lead to 29-20 at half.
Harrisburg would then put together another run to start the second half to pull to within 32-31 at the 15:50 mark. Williamson then went on a run of their own, outscoring the Hawks 23-10 over the next several minutes to go up 55-41 with 9:30 left.
By now it was apparent the Hawks were not going anywhere, and sure enough, they came storming back once again to close to within 63-59 with 3:13 left. Williamson was then able to hold them off from there, outscoring them 9-3 to the end to come away with the win.
On a positive note, Williamson's defense forced 18 turnovers of their own, and held the Hawks to just 37% shooting from the floor. They also outrebounded their opponents 46-30.
A'Jaad White had a big night for Williamson, as he had 18 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Robert Wiley (14), Semaj Chery (12) and Ronald Johnson (12) also pitched in with double figures. Both Wiley and Johnson added 4 assists.
The win moves Williamson to 6-2 on the year and snaps a two-game losing streak. They next host Lehigh Carbon on Thursday night at 7:00 P.M.
