Basketball Stuns Two-Time Defending National Champions
Saturday, as they were on the road against the two-time defending USCAA Division II national champion Penn State Wilkes Barre.
"They are an outstanding program and an outstanding team," shared Williamson head coach Bill Michaels. "We knew were in for a huge challenge, especially since we were on the road."
Indeed, the challenge was real, as Williamson found themselves down by four at halftime at 35-31. Yet once again, Williamson mounted a huge second half comeback and managed to stay strong at the end, as they stunned the two-time national champions on their own home court, 65-61.
"We did some things well, and we tightened up our defense in the second half. Our guys responded well under pressure and took care of business at the end.
"It was a great team effort and a nice win for our program."
The Mechanics had three players in double figures on the day. Semaj Chery lead the way with 17 points, while adding six rebounds. Rob Wiley scored 15 points and dished out six assists, while Liam Rardin contributed 12 points and three rebounds and three assists.
The Mechanics will look to stretch their winning streak to four, as they return home on Tuesday night to take on Luzerne County College in a 7:00 P.M. start.
