Game 2
Christendom
Things were looking good for Williamson late in their second game against Christendom College. Then the suddenly looked bad-really bad, only to then see the Mechanics somehow rally to stun the visitors in the bottom of the seventh inning, after the visitors stung them in the top of the inning. In the end, Williamson came away with an improbable 12-11 win in what was truly a wild affair.
The game was close early however Williamson was eventually able to open things up in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab a 9-5 lead. Haden Nagle's RBI single was followed by a two RBI single by Jacob Naumann to lead the way. That is when the craziness began.
Christendom was able to load the bases with two outs, before hitting a game-tying grand slam to tie things up at 9-9. They were not finished though, as they would then tack on two more additional runs to go up 11-9 heading into the last at bat for the Mechanics.
If anyone doubted this year's Williamson team has heart, you can put those doubt to rest.
With two outs and no one on, Brandon Fredericksdorf drew a walk. That brought up returning USCAA All-American Joshua Illing-and he did what All-Americans do. He bashed a game tying two-out home run to tie thins up at 11-11. But Williamson was not done yet.
With Cody Grande on second base, Haden Nagle his a ball that was deflected by the pitcher to the shortstop but his throw to first was an overthrow, allowing Grande to score and give Williamson the improbable 12-11 win.
It wasn't pretty and it certainly was not a game for the faint of heart, but in the end, the Mechanics gutted out a win they had to have.
The win moves Williamson to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the ESAC. They are now off until next Saturday, March 22 in a doubleheader against Patrick Henry College at home starting at 12 P.M.
