Mechanics Sweep Crusaders
As has been the case all year long for Williamson, the long ball, as well as clutch pitching when needed, have been keys to the team's success. Sunday afternoon's second game against host Christendom College proved to be no exception, as Williamson used both to come away with a 14-7 win and a sweep of their doubleheader against the Crusaders.
Joe Kelly and Josh Illing each homered for Williamson, as the Mechanics went big early. Just when the Crusaders were looking to make a run, senior Steve Gualtieri came up with an outstanding 3-inning relief stint to keep the opponents at bay and give the Mechanics the win they needed.
Williamson now awaits the results of the remaining doubleheader between league leading Central Penn and Bucks. With Williamson sitting at 6-6 in league play and Bucks art 4-6, Bucks would need to sweep to force a one-game play-off with Williamson to see who would play the Knights in the championship game.
The win moves to 17-9 on the regular season. Their turnaround from 1-16 a year ago is the largest turnaround in school history.
