Nearey’s Gem Takes Down DCCC
Senior pitcher Ryan Nearey pitched a two-hit complete game for Williamson, in helping to lead the Mechanics to a 5-1 win over Delaware County Community College. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
After shaking off the rust of not having played for a week, Williamson jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and eventually pulled away in a three-run fifth inning. The key hits in that inning came from Josh Illing had a two RBI double, and an RBI single by Cody Grande. Illing went 2-3 on the day with two doubles and the two RBIs.
Meanwhile, Nearey was pitching a gem on the mound. He went the distance for the Mechanics, allowing just two hits, while striking out six.
Williamson actually increased their lead to 11-1 in the top of the seventh inning however, rain halted things at that point, forcing the score to revert back to the previous full inning. The rest of the game, as well as the second game of the doubleheader, was halted at that time. The schools continue to work on a make-up date for the second game.
The win moves Williamson to 6-3 on the year. They next host Penn State Scranton on Tuesday afternoon doubleheader, April 2 beginning at 1:00 P.M.
