Baseball Drops Road Doubleheader to Central Penn
The Williamson baseball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt on Tuesday afternoon, as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader to conference leading Central Penn College.
Williamson started well in the opening game, but several key baserunner mistakes killed their early momentum. The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the third inning when several errors led to four runs for Central Penn, two of which were unearned.
Williamson got one run back in the top of the fourth, only to allow three more runs by the Knights in the bottom of the fourth. Williamson would get two runs in the fifth to pull to within 7-3, but the Knights held them from there to earn the win.
Joe Kelly went 1-3 with an RBI for Williamson. Jacob Naumann pitched a complete game for Williamson, going allowing just seven hits and three walks, while striking out six.
The second game saw Williamson battle back twice to tie the game, only to see Central Penn pull away at the end. Williamson was down 3-0 and 5-3 before tying things up at 5-5 in the top of the fifth. Central Penn added a run in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth and shut Williamson out from there to get the win and the sweep.
Jacob Naumann, Josh Illing and Samuel Coppa all had two hits apiece for Williamson.
The losses drop Williamson to 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the ESAC. The next ravel to Bucks for a single ESAC game on Friday afternoon at 3:30 P.M.
