Game 1
Central Penn
Williamson's baseball team was facing a situation that in the past would have been something they might not have had much hope. After battling all game and blowing an 8-4 lead in the seventh inning and finding themselves down 11-8 in the bottom of the seventh, the team could have quit. After all, how many teams would be able to come back that far in the final frame against the defending Eastern States Athletic Conference. Yet, this year's Williamson baseball team is not like those of recent years. The players have been saying that all along, and they proved that in a huge way, as they came storming back to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Central Penn, 12-11 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
Williamson's strong pitching kept things close for the Mechanics until they rallied to take what looked like would be an insurmountable lead, 804, heading into the final frame. It was then that Central Penn came alive and Williamson's pitching started to falter some, as the Knights rallied for seven runs to go up 11-8.
If you were a betting man, one would have to think that Williamson's spirit might have been broken at that point. With the Knight's star relief pitcher on the mound, how much chance did Williamson really have? Well, THAT narrative has now been totally changed, as Williamson had more than enough to come roaring back and pull off a stunning upset.
The win snapped a 13-game losing streak by Williamson to Central Penn, dating all the way back to 2018! Joe Kelly led the way for the offense with a two-run home run blast that traveled over the shed outside the fence in center field.
In the nightcap, Central Penn raced to a quick 5-0 lead. Williamson got to within 5-2 but could get no closer as they ran out of arms in losing 17-4.
Williamson now stands at 2-2 on the year. They host Patrick Henry in a doubleheader on Saturday and travel to Bucks for a doubleheader on Sunday, both beginning at noon.
