After having lost to #8 Central Penn by a score of 8-1 just nine days ago, Williamson was a huge underdog in their Sunday afternoon rematch with the Knights, especially considering starter Gio Karasavas was out. Then throw in the fact that Williamson lost two-time USCAA All-American Brandon Cairy to an injury midway through the first half and few people would have given Williamson much of a chance. Yet, despite the odds being stacked against them, Williamson gave the Knights all they could handle before dropping a 5-3 decision in Media, PA.
Williamson scored first at the 12:31 mark when Zach Bosak converted a penalty kick. The Knights then converted a penalty kick of their own to even the score at the 22:47 mark. The score would remain 1-1 until just over three minutes left in the half to put them up 2-1 at the break.
The Knights would increase their lead to 4-1 with two quick goals to start the second half. At that point, some in attendance might have though the game was out of reach for Williamson. Those thinking that could not have been more wrong, as Williamson came storming back to pull to within 4-3. Jonathan Illing score an incredible goal for the Mechanics at the 55:50 mark. He then assisted on Daniel Andre's first goal of the year at the 62:57 mark to pull Williamson to within one.
The Knights would go back up by two at the 65:5 mark. Neither team would score form that point on and it ended in a 5-3 decision.
Williamson goalie Nathan Meyers played the game of his life, as he faced 38 shots, coming up with 12 saves, many of which were acrobatic ones, to keep the Knights off the board.
With the loss, Williamson now drops to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the ESAC. They travel to Lehigh Carbon Community College Tuesday afternoon before returning home for a 6:30 P.M. kick-off against Manor College on Thursday.
