Seven Soccer Players Earn USCAA All-Academic Honors

The 2023 Williamson soccer team capped off a brilliant year on the field with outstanding work as well in the classroom, as seven players were recently named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's 2023 Men's Division II Soccer National All-Academic team.  Seniors Zachary Bosak and Michael Hegarty were joined by juniors Jonathan Illing, Dan Maroney, Richard Lusch Giorgios Karasavas and Harrison Pritt as selections for the team.

In order to be considered for the squad, a student-athlete must either be a starter and/or a significant contributor to his team's success, as well as maintain a cumulative overall Grade Point Average of 3.50 or higher.  Freshmen are not eligible for consideration for the award.

Bosak had a tremendous year on the field.  He led the nation in shots with 101, was fifth in the country in goals (17) and points (40), which was good enough to earn him Second team USCAA All-American honors.  Hegarty was a key contributor in goal for the Mechanics.  Several of his saves were game-saving ones and helped allow Williamson to have the success that it did on the field.

Illing had five goals and three assists on the year, with one of his goals being a game winner.  Karasavas had five goals, despite missing almost half the season with an injury.  He too, added a game winning goal. Maroney had a tremendous season on the back line and was a major force in all 16 games this year.  Lusch had two goals and an assist and was a valuable presence all over the field. Pritt saw plenty of action at several different positions and had an impact whenever he was called upon.

"I'm really proud of our guys.  Playing a college sports isn't easy, and playing a college sport at Williamson is even tougher.  For our guys to be such great representatives of Williamson in the classroom and on the field is a real tribute to who they are as Williamson men," shared Williamson head coach Peter Glowa.

"Again, I could not be prouder of them."

Williamson had its finest season since 2016, going 8-7-1 and was nationally ranked for five weeks during that time.  Williamson senior Brandon Cairy earned First team All-American honors, while Zachary Bosak earned Second team All-American honors.
