Jonathan Illing scored two goals and the Williamson defense clamped down on visiting Patrick Henry College, as Williamson claimed a 2-0 victory over the Sentinels Saturday afternoon at Williamson.
Illing's first goal came at the 26:18 mark of the first half, off an assist from Dylan Beaver. The Mechanics would ride that goal to a 1-0 halftime lead.
Illing next struck just 1:18 into the second half on an unassisted goal to put Williamson up 2-0. Williamson's defense would take if from there. Try as they may, Patrick Henry was not able to get the type of quality shots on goal that they needed to try to get back in the game. Freshman goalie Aaron O'Keeffe picked up his first collegiate shutout, making six saves along the way. Dylan Burke, Dan Maroney, Rob Wagner, James Bryan, Ricky Lusch and Colin Catrambone all combined to keep O'Keeffe out of harm's way.
The Mechanics needed a big game, after a disastrous second half at Manor on Thursday led to a 5-1 defeat. The were able to rebound in a big way today against a Patrick Henry team they tied just two weeks ago in Virginia, 1-1.
"In soccer you need to have a short memory. You learn from your mistakes, but you cannot dwell on them. Our guys were able to put Thursday behind them and take down a very good Patrick Henry team today. I'm proud of their efforts in doing so," shared Williamson head coach Peter Glowa.
The win moves Williamson to 5-3-1 on the year. They get right back at it on Monday for an ESAC game at Bucks in a 3:30 P.M. start.
