Five Soccer Players Named to USCAA National All Academic Squad
In keeping with their tradition of producing not just quality soccer players on the field, but also outstanding students in the classroom, five Williamson soccer players were named to the 2024 United States Collegiate Athletic Association's national Soccer All-Academic squad. The honor recognizes players that were starters or significant contributors to the team's success on the field, while maintaining a 3.50 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in the classroom as well. Freshman are not eligible for the award.
Leading the way for the Mechanics, fresh off earning All-American honors, is senior forward Jonathan Illing. He was named and Honorable Mention All-American by the USCAA after scoring eight goals and adding two assists for the Mechanics. He is a two-time national All-Academic selection.
Another two-time All-Academic selection is senior fullback Dan Maroney. A key component on the back line, he was a three-year starter for the Mechanics and a key component to the team's defense when he was healthy.
Fellow senior Harrison Pritt came on big for the team midway through the season and contributed three goals and one assist in 2024. He also was an All-Academic team member in 2023.
Senior Richard Lusch was a spark for the offense, as he scored one goal and added three assists on the year. He becomes a two-time All-Academic team member as well.
New to the squad is junior Rob Wagner. A stalwart on defense, he made his presence know through each and every game. He also is an outstanding lacrosse player.
Williamson closed out the 2024 season at 6-9-2. After an outstanding start to the season, injuries riddle the team to end what was on track to be another winning season.
