Mechanics Pull Out a Victory in Dramatic Fashion

Tuesday's soccer game was a hard-fought battle between two evenly matched teams that appeared like it was going to end in a 0-0 tie.  That all changed in the final minute though, as Williamson's Dylan Beaver got to a loose ball with help from Jonathan Illing and knocked it into the back of the net to give Williamson a stunning 1-0 victory over Penn State Scranton.

The game was the first meeting between the two school's in several years.  All the previous match-ups between the two in the past were classic games, and this one proved no different.  While Williamson had more shots (17-6) and more shots on goal (10-2), the Lions had several outstanding chances, one of which hit the cross bar at the 38-minute mark of the first half.  Williamson also had several chances but could not put the ball in the next until Beaver rescued the Mechanics and sent them home as winners.

Williamson goalie Michael Hegarty picked up the shutout, the first of his career.  He had a ton of help from an active back line of Dylan Burke, Dan Maroney, Richard Lusch and Colin Catrambone.

The win moves Williamson to 7-5-1 on the year.  They next host Patrick Henry College at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday.
